Book Review: The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue

by Karina Yan Glaser

The Vanderbeekers are ecstatic when Mrs. Vanderbeeker is going to be featured in a famous magazine for her baking! This is just what she needs for her business! The photo shoot for the magazine article does mean that a health inspector will have to come and make sure that the Vanderbeeker kitchen meets health code, but that won’t be a problem. The dates get marked on the calender, and the Vanderbeekers are sure that they have plenty of time to get ready.

However, time passes quicker than the Vanderbeekers realize, and the health inspection ends in disaster. The Vanderbeeker children find themselves to blame and are determined to fix the situation. They have to find some way to get Mrs. Vanderbeeker the health license she needs; they can’t ruin her chance at being featured in the magazine!

Also, who keeps leaving animals on the Vanderbeekers’ doorstep?!

The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue is very similar to the other two Vanderbeeker books–the Vanderbeeker children have to fix a problem–but is just as delightful as the other two!

Like in the other two books, I loved seeing the family dynamics and how well Glaser writes them. All of the characters are so great, and I just love watching their stories unfold.

I do always wonder a little bit when I read the Vanderbeeker books about whether or not it is realistic for a bunch of kids to travel around New York City on their own. However, the Vanderbeeker children do have to get around to propel the plot onward.

Overall, The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue is another great addition to the Vanderbeekers series.

Cautions: none
