Last month, I was pretty much off social media. I still checked it in case I needed to take care of something, like a message, but I didn’t worry about posting or engaging. And it was so freeing. I didn’t miss it.
Now, I’m thankful for the friendships with fellow readers, writers, and authors that I’ve formed online. But a part of me wishes I could delete my accounts. The lack of pressure to post and the freedom from distraction is so appealing.
Now, I will be sticking around social media. As I said, I like the opportunities it creates, and it’s also a useful platform for my writing. But I want to keep the time I spend on my phone down and retain a measure of the freedom that comes with being disconnected.
And take this as a reminder that you don’t have to do social media, even as a writer! There are other viable strategies for building a platform and getting your work out there. Find the one that works best for you. ![]()
