I’m over Social Media

Last month, I was pretty much off social media. I still checked it in case I needed to take care of something, like a message, but I didn’t worry about posting or engaging. And it was so freeing. I didn’t miss it.

Now, I’m thankful for the friendships with fellow readers, writers, and authors that I’ve formed online. But a part of me wishes I could delete my accounts. The lack of pressure to post and the freedom from distraction is so appealing.

Now, I will be sticking around social media. As I said, I like the opportunities it creates, and it’s also a useful platform for my writing. But I want to keep the time I spend on my phone down and retain a measure of the freedom that comes with being disconnected.

And take this as a reminder that you don’t have to do social media, even as a writer! There are other viable strategies for building a platform and getting your work out there. Find the one that works best for you. ❤️

How do you feel about social media? What’s one of your favorite strategies for managing it?

I stopped using social media over a year ago. It was taking too much time out of my day, and became like an idol. It also had so many temptations that drew me to sin. Dropping social media freed me to think more about things that really matter in life. I still login every now and then, about once or twice a year.

For controlling access, I’m using an app that limits time spent on social media to 10 minutes per hour, so I only get on if absolutely necessary. Some video sites, like YouTube, I’ve blocked and limited access to being in the presence of another person on their device.
