We live in a world of instant gratification and stimulation. Our phones are filled with apps and algorithms that are designed to keep our fingers scrolling and, frankly, rewire our brains to crave input.
Even if we’re not on our phones, we’re quick to pick up some other form of entertainment or activity, be it a book, puzzle, movie, or something else.
How often do we just sit with just our thoughts?
I think it’s healthy for us to resist the pull for entertainment, be it on a screen or not, for a variety of reasons. And as creatives, I think it might be even more important.
Giving our minds those quiet moments allows our brains the silence and space to run wild and explore new ideas. Often, the moments when I don’t have some form of mental input are when I come up with new stories or brainstorm an important element.
So my challenge for you is to just sit in silence for a little bit. Enjoy the quiet. I think you’ll find that your imagination can entertain you pretty well. 😊
