Sometimes the person you have to fight with hardest for your writing is yourself.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my current WIP, it’s how to fight for my writing with myself. A year ago, I was literally *this* close to shelving this project and possibly giving up on writing altogether. I was burned out and stuck. But I couldn’t do it.
Deep down, I love this story, even as I wanted to give up. And that love is what kept me brainstorming how to fix a plot hole, even when it seemed the size of the Grand Canyon. I fought with myself to keep writing.
Tenacity. It’s the word I’ve chosen for my writing journey. It’s persistence, resolution, drive, mettle. It’s something I think every writer needs. Because creating is not easy. Sometimes the discouragement comes from outside—a rejection letter or stinging feedback. Sometimes—more often than we think, I suspect—it comes from within.
Cling to the love you have for that story spark. Keep fighting for your story, even with yourself.
