This might sound really obvious, but writing requires time. Odds are likely that you have a general average for how much you can write in a certain amount of time. For instance, I’m currently averaging around 1,000 words an hour. But if I keep only giving myself an hour to write, I’m never going to meet my 2,000 word daily goal. Because I’m not doing the simple math and giving myself enough time.
I’ll be the first person to admit that life is busy. There are a lot of things that vie for our attention and time. But when I’m honest, there are things I give time to that aren’t really that important. And if I were to cut out those things, I’d probably have another hour for writing.
I’m writing this post mostly as an honest reminder to myself, but also because one of you might need it to. See this as a gentle reminder to give your schedule and habits an honest look. Where could you gain more time? What might you need to cut back on?
Writing takes time. Make sure to give yourself enough.
