What Social Media Doesn’t Show You…

Social media doesn’t show you the days of writers block, when words run dry and sitting down at the laptop is one of the hardest things to do.

It doesn’t show you the author struggling to smile at the camera for her Instagram posts. It doesn’t show the difficulties coming up with what to post when nothing seems to be getting engagement.

It doesn’t show the imposter syndrome, the doubts, the discouragements that hide beneath the surface.

Remember, social media is a highlights reel. When everyone else seems to be thriving in their writing, and you spent two hours writing 500 words, remember that. Social media feeds are a curated story. We choose what we want to share, and often we only share the good, the best. You don’t see the full story through a screen. Don’t let comparison creep in and discourage you. Everyone’s journey has ups and downs, whether we post about it or not.

Writing is hard. But you’ve got this.
