It’s hard to watch someone else live your dream. 

Maybe it’s a book contract, an agent, an opportunity, a job. It can be so hard to watch someone else get what you’ve longed and strived for. I know—I’ve wrestled with those flashes of envy and the accompanying discouragement. But you are exactly where you are meant to be. 

God is sovereign. Nothing happens outside of His good and perfect plan. And that means that you aren’t supposed to have that dream, at least not right now. And that fact is a good thing. 

It can be hard, but rest in God’s timing and His control. When you do that, when you surrender your dreams, I’ve found that you can then rejoice with that friend who landed the agent, got the job, scored the amazing opportunity. Trust God and His plan.
