publisher’s synopsis

NEVER TRUST A PIRATE
Emme is tasked with getting rid of the king, but kings are not an easy target, and this one is bent on purging his lands of pirates. As Emme’s job becomes increasingly dangerous, she learns to survive the pirate way—cunning and merciless—while consoling herself with one fact: she’s just doing what it takes to get home.
But when Emme mistakenly takes out the wrong man, not even the protective pirate captain can save her from the consequences. In a string of betrayals, one thing is certain. You can never trust a pirate.
Just like in Oathbound, twists, turns, and deception abound. Every character has things they’re not telling the rest of the crew, and even secrets that the reader doesn’t get to know.
The multiple POVs were balanced well, and the plot was paced nicely. The character development was done well. As in Oathbound, McCombs writes in a disability representation by giving Emme an illness based on a real disability Victoria herself has. Emme’s struggle with her illness was touching, and McCombs wrote it well.
This isn’t so much a quibble with the book, but I wish that the back cover blurb had been written a little differently. Emme doesn’t take out the wrong man until around 2/3 of the way through the book. Knowing that she was going to mess up the assassination going into the book dissipated some of the tension that could have been there if the reader hadn’t known that information going into the book.
SPOILER
I also wish that there had been a scene where Emme’s oathbound was resolved. I think it would have wrapped up that thread a little nicer and provided some more resolution.
END SPOILER
Silver Bounty is another pirate adventure with plenty of lies and twists along the way.
Cautions: semi-graphic moderate/heavy violence; brief, semi-graphic descriptions; moderate romance; four kisses
